Vihiga Leads In Climate Change Action As The World Marks Water Day

As the world commemorated ‘World Water Day 2023’ today, Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo alongside the deputyΒ  governor H.E. Wilberforce KitiezoΒ  led residents in celebrating this important day by commissioning Gaga Water Project in Gisambai ward, Hamisi Sub-county

Dr. Ottichilo reiterated his commitment to making sure that every household in Vihiga gets access to clean and safe water as outlined in his 2022-2027 manifesto.

The County Boss also noted that Vihiga County has embraced green energy technology to ensure a consistent water supply which has cut down electrical costs.

However, he appealed to residents to refrain from planting eucalyptus trees and instead embrace indigenous trees to protect and preserve the water sources in the County.

Gaga Water Project has a production capacity of 120,000 liters per day to serve more than 2,000 households in Gisambai and North Maragoli Wards.

The Governor also launched the construction of Emanyinya Water Project in Central Bunyore Ward which will be completed in 2 months.
The Department of Water has initiated last-mile water connectivity to increase access to potable water by Vihiga residents.
