His Excellency Governor Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo has issued cheques worth 13 million to 20 Ward Based SACCOS that came in place following mobilization of farmers in groups under DoALF-NARIGP to ensure sustainability of structures and enable them continue promoting technologies and innovations they had received through trainings and demonstrations.
The SACCOs have been provided with an inclusion grant of Kshs 650,000 per SACCO frome DoALF(NARIGP) which will go towards infrastructural development support.
Speaking during the event, Governor Ottichilo reiterated his commitment to transform Vihiga through smart agriculture encouraging the members of the different SACCOs to venture into agricultural practices that will boost the economy of the County.
The County Boss assured the members of support from his administration through capacity building to ensure that they remain focused for the success of the Sacco groups.
However Governor Ottichilo challenged the SACCOs to embrace digitization for proper management of resources.
Further under the NAVCDP, SACCOs will receive matching grants of upto 5 during the loaning phase. As a result of this, the Department of Agriculture through NARIGP will soon support the Department of Commerce,Tourism and Cooperatives to develop SACCO policies for operationalization of the loaning scheme to SACCO farmers.
