Bolstering OF Local Talent Through The Youth Act and Sports Fund
The County Government of Vihiga has emerged as a champion in nurturing and supporting local talent through various initiatives such as implementation of the Progressive Youth Act and Sports Fund. These have provided a platform for the youth to showcase their skills and abilities while also empowering them for future success.
One shining example of the county government’s commitment to talent development is the recent 4th consecutive victory of Vihiga Queens as the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) 2022/2023 Women’s Cup champions.
Vihiga Governor H. E. Dr. Wilber Ottichilo congratulated the team for their remarkable achievement which has brought honour and recognition to the county.
Under the Youth Act, the county government has created a robust framework that caters to diversify areas of talent development such as arts, sports, entrepreneurship and innovation. Through the department of Youths and Sports, youths across the county can now have access to a wide range of resources, mentorship programs and opportunities to pursue their passions and excel.
Through the Sports Fund, financial resources have been allocated to sports initiatives, training programs, infrastructure development, and providing state-of-the-art sports facilities from the grass root level. This unwavering support has contributed immensely to the growth of the sports men and women of the County who are now able to compete at National and International levels.
H.E. governor Wilber Khasilwa Otichilo pledges to support and work with the youths towards the development of Vihiga and still keep his promise of appointing three youths in the chief officers position for the docket which is still unfilled
